The Romantic Period (1789-1850)Romanticism was shaped by the beauty and power of nature, also shaped by valuing feelings and nature.
Romanticism challenged an earlier focus on reason and order. Most romantics believed that imagination not science held the secrets to the universe. The french revolution happened due to romanticism but shortly after Napoleon Bonaparte took control of the french government and ended it shortly after it had started. As political violence transformed France, the industrial revolution started changing Britain into a nation of city's and factories. Video Source: Literature Launchers. "The Triumph of Romanticism." The Victorian Period (1850-1900)During the 19th century Britain reached a height of its political and economic power. the British believed they had a god given duty to civilize the world. Efforts to improve Victorian society contributed to the emergence of literary realism. Realist writers created fiction specifically to provide accurate illustrations of Victorian social problems such as poverty. The suffering of poor children, some of the chief victims of society, were often the subjects of realist fiction. A new movement called naturalism developed out of realism. It tried to present contemporary people and their problems as accurately as possible. Charles Darwin's theory of evolution strongly influenced naturalism.

The unsuspecting child
with no care in the world the only choices’ he made was funny sunday cartoons and which playful toys to play with. Now acne on his cheeks and hair on his chin, he drives to that boring, bland, black and white school to decide what back-breaking career he’ll have for the rest of his life. |
Now with a wife and three sons, and a greasy hair net
struggling to make ends meet, wishing for that better job knowing the only food his family can afford to eat every night is burgers and fries. now on his death bed with a mountain of wrinkles and a dynasty of grease to show for his accomplishments wishing for those sunday cartoons and playful toys. now lifeless in bed with nothing to show but a dynasty of grease. |
